As I mentioned in a blog entry before, I’m somewhat obsessed with street style (especially since the reality of my woeful student budget has finally set in.) I picked these three out of the growing Filipino/ Filipino American community on Lookbook because they are refreshingly original style-wise and for their photographic aesthetic. And they all have that much needed yet undefinable quality known as attitude or (gumption as Betty says from Ugly Betty). 

There is so much out there however, and I’m pretty sure I’ll be checking back in with new favorites. Maybe an account of my own soon! (The site is at the moment, invite-only.)

Crispin & Basilio, if you will all recall were two characters from Filipino National Hero Jose Rizal’s seminal novel Noli Me Tangere. It also happens to be a dope clothing line, by a Filipino designer Don Barrios. Here are some pickings from the Spring collection, which is right around the corner. I quite like the sophisticated colors pallette and grown-up yet comfy looking clothes. All the pieces here are available at Revolve Clothing. If only I could afford them. Here’s wishing.

The only frustrating thing– is all the broken links in the directory, as well as there is really no way to find out who’s been keeping their blog updated (yes I am guilty of this.)
So I thought, I’d try to weed through some of the broken links and on-hiatus stuff to give you some fun reads (From the Philippines, there are other countries too!)

For those who haven’t figured out what to do for their New Year’s Resolutions, here are a few ideas:

Keep a gratitude journal. Here’s a program for Iphone and Ipod Touch users. It also donates 10% of profits to charity. Or if you like the analog kind here’s one from Amazon.

Dream big. Make that list known as Mondo Beyondo.

Learn to meditate. Here’s a site with nifty podcasts (Free!) or check out your Itunes Store for other podcasts.

Give more. Find a charity, a non-profit, a cause to get behind. Donate to various non-profits or concentrate on one to spread the word about for an entire year.

A new collection has just been released on her site. Don’t think I can actually afford her stuff, but I love how the clothes manage to be lady-like, dramatic and sculptural all at the same time.

I especially like the pants. Reminds me of these fisherman pants I picked up in Bali back in 2005, but classier you know.

** Okay, so figured I should mention who exactly Mich Dulce is. From what I know about her, is that she’s a super-talented avant-garde designer from the Philippines– with a unique, and upbeat aesthetic.**

Oh, and he’s recently updated on the project since then in this entry.  Check it out for a little sneak-peek and offer your support. Funny thing I was actually talking to a guy about Jose Rizal today. He claims that the Noli Me Tangere was one of the ten books that sat by Gandhi’s deathbed. Not sure if that’s true, but if it was that’s awesome.

Style Samurai has a plethora of stylish Filipinos  being beautiful (if you dig the manorexic thing). Plus interesting commentary to boot.

I mentioned in my other blog ages ago, how I don’t think I’ll ever be into high fashion. I had my Vogue phase, and I came thisclose to pursuing some sort of degree in fashion. I mean yeah– I like clothes. Bouncing around the internets I found this pretty cool blog Manila Style that chronicles Manila fashion (plus some other Asian cities thrown in there as well.) There hasn’t been that many updates lately (the blogger is also an active participant of the fashion industry, I’m guessing) but the archives are pretty dope. It’s definitely interesting to see the zeitgeist– ranging from the very classic and prim as well as the all out quirky.  Also found on this site, a link to this site: anothernightout, which boasts some pretty awesome party photos, just the way I like them, all up close and intimate with beautiful people in that instantateous moment that the flash goes off– (case in point see above.)
